Halo Studios Updates PlayStation Plus Requirement for Split-Screen
Halo Studios has given an update on recent statements surrounding whether PlayStation Plus is required for the upcoming Halo: Campaign Evolved remake.

Halo Studios has gone on record to update that PlayStation Plus will not be required to play split-screen locally on the PS5 version of Halo: Campaign Evolved.
A few days ago, we reported on specific wording in a recent Q&A on the Halo Waypoint blog, where the studio mentioned that each player would require a PS Plus account to play the upcoming remake of the original Halo game, even just to play the game split-screen locally.
The studio has since tweeted to clarify that this was an incorrect statement, and that each player will only require a PlayStation account linked to a Microsoft account, but there is no requirement for a paid subscription to play the game locally. It has also updated the original Q&A in bold:
PlayStation 5®: If you’re playing splitscreen local co-op on PlayStation 5®, both players will need to be signed into PlayStation accounts and be linked to Microsoft accounts. A PlayStation Plus account is NOT required for local splitscreen co-op. Online network co-op play requires an active PlayStation Plus subscription. [via Halo Waypoint]
Online co-op will continue to require each player to have a PlayStation Plus subscription, but this is pretty standard fare. We've updated our original article to reflect this correction.
The noise surrounding the original statement certainly hasn't helped to take the spotlight off Xbox lately, after recent reporting of mass studio closures, but PlayStation players should rest easy. The PS5 version is currently performing well, outpacing pre-orders of the upcoming Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynced remake, Control sequel Resonant, among other anticipated titles on the PlayStation Store charts.
We'll be sure to cover the game when it launches July 28 (or July 23 for Premium or Collector's edition early access), and let you know whether Master Chief's Unreal Engine 5-powered outing is worth checking out.
