Amazon Gaming Chief Jeff Gatiss clarifies earlier comments surrounding the future of IO's hit 007 saga.
Amazon's Gaming Chief Jeff Gattis has clarified earlier comments surrounding the future of IO Interactive's take on the legendary spy, with the title now selling well over 2.7 million copies after its first week.
Last week we reported on comments Jeff Gattis made to Polygon, where doubts were cast around the future of the James Bond origin story which released to critical and financial success.
Originally, the line was that sequels will be done by "MGM, and theoretically, by Amazon Game Studios", however Jeff says this was spun out of context, and clarifying to IGN, the head of Amazon Gaming now says that he never claimed that Amazon Gaming would publish any sequels, and that the relationship with IO remains positive, with the chief visiting the Copenhagen studio recently.
"Trust that we're going to be smart about this," Gattis said. When asked about whether 007 First Lightmade enough of a profit to justify a sequel, he was fairly blunt: "Seems like a sequel should be made."
IO has been touting the game's success, upgrading its earlier claims of 1.5 million copies within the first 24 hours to 2.7 million copies within the first week. The company says this is beyond its forecasts and IO's CEO Hakan Abrak told IGN he is "very confident" in the game's profitability, even after accounting for all the inherent costs in working on a licensed title.
As part of Summer Games Fest, the studio also revealed its first year of content support for the budding spy's adventures, with a new Gadget, TacSim updates, a New Game+ mode, and a new Story Mission "Bawma Will Return", which will see actor Lenny Kravitz reprise his role as the titular character.
