Sony Interactive Entertainment Australia, the Aussie arm of the international company that runs PlayStation, have announced that players have consumed over one billion hours of entertainment over the past twelve months on PlayStation in Australia.
The one billion hours comprise gameplay hours, music, television, and video content consumed.
The company says video content viewing has risen 26 percent year on year, and that 3.7 million Australians are subscribing to a streaming service, echoing the sentiments shared by the recent Digital Australia 2018 report.
Michael Denny, SVP of Sony Interactive Worldwide Studios, was impressed by the number: “Reaching one billion hours of play in Australia is testament to the blockbuster content that is exclusive to PlayStation, from Horizon Zero Dawn to Gran Turismo Sport, and upcoming releases like God of War and Detroit: Become Human. As important as our commitment to content is our commitment to our loyal fans, families and players.”
The announcement was made at PlayFest 2017, a “celebration” of PlayStation, currently occurring in Sydney.
Since the original PlayStation released in Australia in 1995, the company has released over 500 first-party titles across the PlayStation console portfolio.
