The minds behind the Amnesia series plan to take the horror of SOMA to your eyeballs.
Frictional Games, the developer which practically became synonymous with the horror genre after their work on titles like Penumbra and the Amnesia series, last took their flavour of horror to deep below the ocean in SOMA, which released September 2015.
In a new update, the team have added eye-tracking support to those (presumably few) of you who own a Tobii eye tracking device for the PC version. I’ve been lucky enough to try this technology at a couple of events now, and it’s certainly really interesting, even if it is under-utilised in the games sector (for obvious reasons; the install base isn’t really that big).
Eye-tracking specific features include a gaze-tracking flashlight, and zooming in on things you are focusing on, in addition to being able to trigger certain in-game events with your gaze. If you’re still interested to learn more, check out the video below.
Additionally, the game is now on sale until the 24th of April, at 66% off on Steam (in addition to some discounts on the rest of Frictional’s back catalogue).
